A Roman Afternoon

*12.30 - 2.30 A Demonstration and Tasting of Roman Cookery by Dr Edith Evans (Gwent Glamorgan Archaeological Trust) This will be held outdoors behind the Hall. She does the cooking, you do the tasting

*2.30 - 3.30 New discoveries on the site of the Roman fortress at Caerleon A talk by Dr Peter Guest (Lecturer in Roman Archaeology, Cardiff University) This will be given within the Hall.

Guided walks around the site of Gelligaer Roman fort (on the other side of the main road) will be available at various times (from 12.30 p.m. onwards) depending upon demand. If you are going on the walk 'sensible' shoes are advised as it is a bit rough under foot

Gelligaer Historical Society merchandise will be on sale and there will be information on Roman and other early local settlement available. All are welcome. You may participate in one, two or all of the options. There is no entry fee but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. *Times may vary according to how long it takes to heat up the Roman hearth.
