An Abergavenny Wine Adventure

@ Meeting Point: Llansantffraed Court, (Or pickup from Abergavenny Train Station)

Heading to Abergavenny for the Food festival?

Our starting point will be Llansantffraed Court Hotel where we will meet before heading in the mini bus to White Castle Vineyard an award winning vineyard just out side of Abergavenny where owners Robb and Nicola Merchant will be waiting for us. Planted by the Merchants in 2009, don't let their recent introduction to wine producing fool you. White Castle has already won awards for their wine. You will have a tour of the vineyard and if nature is on our side the vineyard will be redolent with grapes on the vine just before harvesting. You will learn how they produce their award winning wine and why they've chosen to grow particular grapes varieties over others. After our tour, Robb and Nicola will guide us through a tutored tasting of their sparkling and still wine.

After our vineyard visit, its back to a delectable dinner featuring the best of local produce paired with welsh wine. We're aiming to delight your senses, which is why we've chosen this restaurant - based in a Grade II listed building - to host us. The restaurant has retained two AA Rosettes for 17 consecutive years; for the past seven years, its wine cellar has been shortlisted for the AA Wine List of the Year Award. Llansantffraed Court is known for its menu, which features the finest local and seasonal produce; in fact, about 80 percent of the food on its menu is sourced from within a 15 mile radius - including the produce from their own walled vegetable garden

Adventure Itinerary 4:00 Arrive and Welcome Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival 4:15 Depart for White Castle Vineyard Board the mini bus for a scenic ride to White Castle Vineyard. Carol will give you lots of tips on things to see and do in the area. 4:45 White Castle Vineyard Tour and Tutored tasting Owners Robb and Nicola will great us at the Cellar Door and take us on a walk through the vineyard where you will learn all about grape varietals and growing methods to produce award winning wine. This will be followed by a tutored tasting of 1 sparkling and 3 of their still wines. 7:00 Dinner at Llansantffraed Court Hotel Enjoy a specially prepared 3 course dinner with matching Welsh Wine flight. Our hostess Charlotte will discuss her wine choices for the evening.
