A full programme of Brecon Beacons National Park Authority guided walks, children's activities and family events for you to enjoy throughout August 2012.

Wed 1 Aug 20:30 - 22:00 Bats at Brecon Prom Learn about bat ecology, watch bat behaviour and hear their echo-location calls using bat detector equipment during this fascinating evening event. Bring a torch and wear insect repellent.Meet: On the Promenade at the confluence of the rivers Honddu and Usk (SO 042 286) adjacent to car park. No dogs please. Come and view one of nature's finest shows: the Perseid meteor shower, live from the dark skies above the National Park. Experts from Dark Sky Wales will help you explore the heavens in their portable planetarium; view stars and planets through telescopes. If it is cloudy there will be a range of lectures on the subject. Cost: £10.00 per person with no discounts. Children welcome but minimum age 10 years. Please be aware that the Planetarium show takes place in an enclosed space and includes flashing lights and 360 degree rapid imaging film shows. Booking essential as places are limited to 90 people. Tue 14 Aug 14:30-16:00 Walk, talk and tea at the Mountain Centre An easy 1.5 mile, circular walk that includes a mysterious spiritual centre, an industrial site, a final resting place, preparing for war, an unsolved mystery and a little known wonder. Followed by a delicious Cream Tea at the Centre. Cream tea: £3.20 per person. Suggested donation £2 per adult. This is a family friendly walk. Booking essential on 01874 623366. Sat 25 - Mon 27 Aug Brecon Beacons Summer Fayre Celebrating locally produced food, drink, arts and crafts. The Summer Fayre is now in its eleventh year at the National Park Visitor Centre, Libanus. Savour locally produced food and drinks and find that special gift for another or a souvenir for you! Accompanying the show will be a camping and tent exhibition, food demos, choirs singing, face painting, clay modelling demonstrations and a children's area. Sponsored by the Welsh Government, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, the Brecon and Radnor Express Newspaper Group, and the Cotswolds Outdoor Group.
