@ Cae Llan

`Discover Snowdonia' is a pilot event initiated by a local group of outdoor activity providers (North Wales Outdoor Activity Partnership, trade marketing group (Betws-y-coed & District Tourist Association) and a private business/community partnership (Betws Ymlaen). The prime objective is to create a sustainable, annual event where visitors can learn and partake in the outdoor activities offered by different providers based in the Conwy Valley and Snowdonia region as a whole.

The pilot will be a daylong event where outdoor activity providers will congregate on the village green and surrounding village at various locations (Cae Llan) and advertise their activities.

Providers will offer visitors the opportunity to book onto taster sessions on the day. Visitors will then be able to try different activities, and also discover new activities (some which they perhaps were not aware of before) in the area.

The event will be staged on 27th of May 2013, Whitsun bank holiday. With the half term week ahead, this will also give local providers the chance to make further bookings for the holiday period.

Cae Llan will also have ongoing activities during the day and these will hopefully attract and appeal to visitors. To date suggestions include a zip wire, a wooden mountain biking track, kayaking, bush craft and foraging, abseiling, mountain walking, a tent show, competitions, demonstrations and more. In addition a Food and Drink Festival will be held at Glasdir in Llanrwst, with local produce for sale and a `bake off' competition and guided walk of the area. Several speakers have been lined up to give evening talks on their area of expertise and a Grand Draw with half day activities as prizes will be held on the day to raise funds for Mountain Rescue.

Following the event, visitors should feel that they have discovered much more about Snowdonia in general. They will be more familiar with what the Conwy Valley has to offer and will have thoroughly enjoyed their day experiences. It is likely that they will return home and share this newfound knowledge with friends and family, thus possibly generating even more interest in the area.
