The man who cycled the world!

This April, Theatr Brycheiniog Brecon is visited by Ultra Endurance cyclist - Mark Beaumont. Mark is the current world record holder of the `fastest circumnavigation of the world by bicycle' as he completed 18,296 miles in 194 days 17 hours, beating the previous record by an astonishing 81 days.

To accomplish his epic journey, Mark was required to battle wind, rain, heat, extreme cold, altitude, isolation and fatigue as he travelled a route that passed through two approximately antipodal points. The route began and ended in Paris, taking in 20 countries across Europe, the Middle East, India, Asia, Australasia and North America. This tremendous feat of endurance not only broke the world record but also raised £18,000 for charity. On February 18th 2010 Beaumont completed his latest quest, cycling the entire length of the American continent from Anchorage, Alaska, USA to Ushuaia in Southern Argentina. As if this wasn't enough, he also stopped along the way to climb the Americas' two highest peaks, Mt. McKinley in Alaska and Aconcagua in Argentina. Along the way Mark encountered many challenges, including grizzly bears in the Yukon to the relentless winds in Patagonia.

Following his latest challenge and a month's rest, Mark will be setting out to talk about his two epic cycle trips in his lecture tour The Man Who Cycled the World. Mark's story is a personal rollercoaster of mental and physical endurance as well as a fascinating insight into the world in which we live.
