A full programme of Brecon Beacons National Park Authority guided walks, children's activities and family events for you to enjoy throughout October 2012.
Sat 6 October Brecon Food Festival The Brecon Beacons Food Festival is now in its fifteenth year and the venue is the Market Hall in Brecon. Already confirmed are Derek Brockway and Sue Charles from BBC Wales and the Ready Steady Cook Kitchen which will be inside with children's competitions like last year. Five local school choirs will also be perfroming live on stage throughout the day. This event is one of the key premier Welsh Food Festivals in Wales. Sponsored by the Welsh Government Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, the Brecon and Radnor Express Newspaper Group, the Castell Howell Foods Group, Christ College and NFU Mutual of Brecon. Thur 11 to Mon 15 Oct Hay Walking Festival Following the success of this year's event, the dates have been set for Hay-on-Wye's second ever walking festival. Sat 20 Oct 09:45-17:00 Beacons Circuit Take in all the high points of the Brecon Beacons on this strenuous 11 mile (17.6km) walk over Corn Du and Pen y Fan. Learn a little about glacial formations and local history along the way. Total ascent: 845m. Suggested donation: £5 per person. Sat 20 Oct 19:00-21:30 Stargazing at the Mountain Centre, LD3 8ER. Cardiff Astronomical Society will once again be hosting an evening of stargazing at the National Park Visitor Centre. If skies are clear their telescopes will be focused on interesting phenomena in the night sky, or if cloudy there will be lectures indoors. Price includes parking, soup and a roll. The event will run whatever the weather! Our stargazing events are very popular, so booking is essential. Adults: £6.00 Children: £4.00. Come and browse a wide selection of arts and crafts at the National Park Visitor Centre throughout the school half term. Many are made locally, and all are individually hand-made pieces to treasure. Sat 27 - Sun 28 Oct Festival of Colour celebration of textiles and gardens The Festival combines the glories of garden autumnal beauty and textile colour.
