Seven Week Celebration Not to be Missed!

Routes and Roots Festival is a seven week long festival along Monmouthshire's picturesque canal. From May 14th- 22nd, there are to be a series of walking events along the canal including a beautiful Bluebell walk organised by Erica and Adventa starting at the Goytre on Saturday, 14th May 2011, an IN THE PINK walk on Sunday, 15th May and two walks the following weekend (21st & 22nd May), an easy canal walk organised bt Treads and Trails and Blorenge Walk on Sunday organised by BBNPA wardens. Week commencing 23rd May 2011 is Heritage week in the Roots and Routes festival. The highlights of this week include a Twilight walk on the 27th with the Treads and Trails team and the Goytre Wharf Fete run by Goytre Boat Owners. The third week of the Roots and Routes Festival is dedicated to Wildlife along the canal with a family friendly wildlife walk starting the weeks events on the 1st June with Gwent Wildlife Trust. This is followed by a Walk organised by Adventa on the 4th June 2011 with the week concluding with a Canal Clean Up organised by Keep Wales Tidy as a celebration for World Environment Day.
Week four, the 6th to the 12th June is Arts Week. On the 7th June, there is an Event called ' Out and About' with James Sullivan and BAS. The weekend hosts two events, a Church Yard Walk and a boat Trip. The Church Yard walk on 11th June 2011 is in association with Govilon Heritage Group and the week concludes with the boat trip on the 12th June with Llanfoist Open Gardens. BBNPA Geologists are hosting a beautiful walk on the 14th June with some breathtaking scenery to celebrate the landcape along the canal. The walk includes highlights form Gilwern Hill and Clydach Gorge. Coracle weekend concludes the Landscape week on the 17th June as organised by Middle Ninfa.
As all Cycling Entusiasts may already be aware, the 6th week of the Routes and Roots festival is Natioanl Bike Week. Consisting of six cycling events, this week has something for all the family to enjoy. Cycling for Softies organised by Abergavenny Cycle group is on the 20th June leaving no excuses for any less enthusisatic cyclists followed by a school bike ride on the 21st June. Another highlight of National Bike Week is bike ride suitable for mountain bikes in Blorenge organised by Treads and Trails. Other cycling events to be confirmed.

The seventh and final week of the Routes and Roots festival is dedicated to the boats and navigation along the canal. This week is a true Grand Finale and not to be missed. The week includes a Bat Walk, Schools 'Jamboree' and a Govilon Boat Owners Gala. The festival is ended with a Family Fun Day on the 3rd July 2011.
