Over the past year the community at Gelligaer has been working to increase the profile of its Roman Fort - now is the time to celebrate this fascinating story.
The Romans of Gelligaer A full day of fun • Walks around the Fort - (also long route on to the Common - leaving 12 noon - bring lunch) • Meet characters from the past • Have a go at making a pot or wearing a toga - even taste Roman Food • Come dressed as a Roman or Silure and win a prize • Other stalls and activities Plus talks and a service of Thanksgiving at St Cattwg's Church Venue: Gelligaer - St Cattwg's Church Hall
A Free Guided walk with Green Badge Guide Gordon Hill To celebrate the rich heritage of Gelligaer, Gordon Hill, a qualified Green Badge Guide is holding a walk exploring the sites and stories of the area covering everything from Roman invaders to celebrated Saints! No need to book, just turn up on the day! This walk is part of a full afternoon of celebrations around the Fort/ at St Catwg's Church Hall. Length: a three hour moderate walk across farmland and open common. This walk will be wet under foot and you are advised to come prepared for wet and windy conditions, so good walking footwear is essential. Due to the presence of sheep and cattle on the common, dogs can not be accomodated. An early lunch is advised as there are no refreshments en route.
