Saturday 2 October Brecon Beacons Food Festival Family Friendly Event A great day out for the family with over 50 local food stalls in the Market Hall, Brecon. For more details call Andrew Powell on 01874 624979. Saturday 2 October Talybont's Industrial Heritage 11.00-15.00. Free entry. Guided Walk Use towpaths and tramroads to take in stunning views of the Talybont and Usk Valleys. Accompanying the walk will be local historian John Jones who will provide an entertaining and fascinating insight into the rich cultural heritage of the area. Length & Grade: 6m / 9.7km, Moderate. Saturday 9 October Stargazing 19:00-21:30. Adults £5.00, Children £3.00. Family Friendly Event Cardiff Astronomical Society will once again be hosting an evening of stargazing at the Visitor Centre. If skies are clear their telescopes will be focused on interesting phenomena in the night sky, or if cloudy there will be a range of talks and demonstrations indoors. Price includes parking and a light meal of soup and a roll. The event will run whatever the weather! Our stargazing events are very popular, so booking is essential. For more information and to book a place contact us on (01874) 623366 Saturday 9 October Photo Friendly Wonderful Waterfalls 09:30-16:30. Free entry. Guided Walk. Geopark Event. Have you been on a walk with friends, family or in groups where you have carried your camera all day and not taken a single shot? Wish you had more time to take some photos along the way without holding up the group? Well this walk is for you. Please note that this is not a photography course, but a walk where you have time to stop and take photos along the way. More experienced participants are encouraged to share ideas along the route so others can benefit and take away some rewarding images. The walk is open to all ages (12 yrs+) and levels of experience, whether it is the first time you have taken a camera out, whether you are an amateur, enthusiast or a pro. Participants can use any camera they wish whether it be digital or film, a point and shoot compact or SLR. Booking essential as spaces are limited. Please phone 02920 408262. Sunday 10 October Nordic Walking Day 09:45-15:30. £3 per person or £5 for 2 people. Guided Walk. Geopark Event. Come along and have some fun trying out this enjoyable activity and take part in the largest Nordic Walking day in the UK with Age Cymru's International Nordic Walking Instructors at the National Park Visitor Centre. Booking Essential. For more details and to book a place call 01591 620689. These are partnership events between Age Cymru and the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority. Car parking charges apply. Saturday 16 October A Beacons Circuit 10:00-17:00. Free entry. Guided Walk. Geopark Event. Take in all the `high points' of the Beacons on this walk over the tops of Corn Du and Pen y Fan, taking in the Tommy Jones' Obelisk, the Upper Neuadd Reservoir and Craig Fan Ddu and learn a little about the glacial formations and local history along the way. Length, Grade & Ascent: 10m / 16km, Strenuous, 800m. Meet: Storey Arms car park on the A470, 8 miles south of Brecon (SN 982 203). Thursday 21 October Brecon Town Past and Present 14:15-16:30. Family Friendly Guided Walk. Geopark Event. (repeated Tuesday 25 May, Thursday 3 June, Tuesday 20 July, Thursday 19 August, Thursday 16 September, Thursday 21 October) A town walk, visiting sites of distinction, discovering Brecon's fascinating past and residents of renown. No dogs please. Length / Grade: Approximately 2 miles / Access for all. Meet: Canal Basin, Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon. Small charge for parking. Leader: National Park Volunteer Peter Brock and National Park Rights of Way Assistant, Avril Barnes.
